Friday Five. It may be informational, entertaining, inspirational, or some combination. It may be five related thoughts, or five random topics. But it will be short. And it will leave you with a new thought, idea, or smile on your face.
1. What matters most. Richard Bucci has fought fires, prostate cancer, and his way back from a hip replacement to continue fighting fires at age 54 (he’s nicknamed “Grandpa” by his co-workers). Bucci sums up what matters most in his AARP magazine interview by saying: “When you’ve seen as much death and suffering as I have, just the fact of being here, when so many others you’ve known and loved are not, give every day new meaning. There’s not one day that goes by that I don’t hug my wife and give her a kiss and tell her I love her. Not one day.”
2. Can I get an ‘amen?’
3. Don’t answer that!!
4. Did you know that there are numerous health benefits to being married? If you do an internet search for “health benefits of marriage” you’ll come up with numerous articles giving examples of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health benefits. Click here to read one from Every Day Health Center and here to read one from Focus on the Family.
5. A truism:
Loved it Shel, even though today is Tuesday, and I’m just now getting around to reading it. Good stuff!
Thanks, Kay – there is no right day to read the Friday Five – that’s just my day to do a little random gathering! Love that you’re here!
Fun!! haha Love that cartoon. I NEVER ask this fat question, (not anymore LOL)
The Tolstoy quote is just perfect, too. Thanks for compiling these, Shel! Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Yah – that’s on my shortlist of questions to NEVER ask my honest spouse! Thanks for stopping by, Marie – hope you have a great week!
These are great, Shel. And the cartoon, hilarious! Thanks for the lift.
Your welcome, Dee Dee – that one cracked me up, too!
All good stuff!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Brenda – it’s fun to put it together. Hope to catch up with you soon. Meanwhile, have a great weekend!
Thanks for the encouragement! My husband, brother-in-law, and a good friend have all been volunteer firefighters. It’s an unbelievably hard and thankless job. Hooray for Richard Bucci!
Not to mention dangerous! Please let them all know that there service is appreciated by many who don’t think to be more vocal about it. There is a minute and a half live interview with Richard Bucci at this site: http://dotsub.com/view/7fe562b4-3d62-417c-a370-23fb2a91e269. Have a great weekend, Maria!
This is a great post! Please keep them coming and thanks for the AARP mention.
Glad you chimed in, Dusty! I’m working on a new project and I predict AARP will have even more visibility. I’m looking forward to catching up with you and filling you in – I think you’ll get a kick out of it. Have a good weekend!
That was fun! Tolstoy, you got it right …
He sure did, didn’t he? As DiAne said, some of us long-marrieds have the creds to support the statement! Enjoy the weekend, Tricia!
I’m just gonna say a loud “Amen”. My husband and I have the credentials to speak…thirty-eight years of dealing with those incompatibility issues and going for forty.

Do you ever look back at the early years like I do and marvel at how your responses have changed (matured) to conflict? Some of those things just can’t be book-learned!Have a great weekend, DiAne!
