A Thoughtful Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift

If time got away from you and you’re wondering what you can give the special mom in your life that won’t have that clearly grabbed-at-the-last-minute-out-of-desparateness look to it, here’s an idea for you. Find a fun frame – if you don’t have one on hand, craft stores and discount stores generally have great options – and put a saying in it that you have printed off  the computer. You can put a heartfelt sentiment in original words, or find an existing quote that sums up your feelings toward this special lady. Here are some examples that I put together for today’s Friday Five.

  • What a fun idea! My mom lives out-of-state, so I can’t do this at the last minute. Maybe next year… One year when I didn’t get a card sent on time, I wrote a silly rhyming poem and e-mailed it to her. She loved it!

For you it would have to be the week before the last minute! Sure enjoyed officially meeting you at OWFI last weekend, Maria! Hope to catch up with you again soon!

  • Great idea, Shel! I love the last one…how true!
    Happy Mother’s Day!

That was my favorite, too, Jill! I’m not a mother, but we’ll certainly be honoring our mothers tomorrow. I’m not sure whether or not you have children, but I know you’ll be honoring a special mother, too – Happy Mother’s Day!

  • You know what I’m doing…hostessing annual gathering of neighborhood moms…this year will be bittersweet as two of my regular guests passed away this year and two new ones will join us. This year I switched from brunch to lunch, and make it a salad celebration. So the menu includes 7 salads plus two desserts and lots of liquid anti-oxidants!

This is one of my favorite things to do because the guests – most of whose adult children live elsewhere – totally appreciate it, and I have captive guinea pigs for the new recipes I want to try out! 🙂

    Happy Mom’s Day!

I wish I could be filling one of those empty chairs – it will be bittersweet for you. I love hearing all the raves afterward – and getting the benefit of the winning recipes on my next visit! Hope to see you soon – looking forward to hearing all about the Cuba trip!
