Laugh, and the world laughs with you. More importantly, your spouse laughs with you. Just the words giggle, chuckle and chortle probably make you smile. Take it bigger with mirthful glee or bubbling laughter. Or over the top with a loud guffaw. Whether small, medium or large, laughter is good stuff!
Making your spouse laugh on a daily basis will not only add some fun to your marriage, it may make it last longer! Numerous studies show health benefits – both mental and physical – that result from laughing. Here are just few of the things that some hearty laughter can do for you:
Decreases stress
Boosts your immune system
Burns calories
Lowers blood sugar
Increases blood flow
Protects the heart
Improves alertness
Relaxes your muscles
Decreases pain
Eases fear and anxiety
Improves memory
Strengthens relationships
Promotes bonding
Contributes to better sleep
Produces a general sense of well-being
BONUS: Laughter triggers the release of endorphins in your body. You know what that means? It FEELS good!
So get silly, watch a funny movie, text a joke, cut out a comic, or just tickle them until they beg for mercy – do what it takes to get your mate laughing. Join in the merriment and laugh your way to a healthier, longer marriage!
Tip: If you need help acquiring the skill of laughing more often (yes, it can be learned) tune in to any morning radio show that has more than one host!
My husband is the funny one in our duo. Laughing at his antics instead of rolling my eyes and sighing is a sure way to get him laughing. 🙂
And so easy to do. And soooooo (as we now know) healthy for both of you! Have a great weekend, Peggi!
Very nice Shel…..Always good to have a laugh a day!
At least one!
The world definitely needs more laughter. 🙂
I do the “crab walk”…gets him laughing every time.
Just trying to picture the walk is making me smile, Jill!
We have three Rotten Cats and new hardwood floors. We also have one Kidzilla with a wicked sense of humor. Laughter abounds!
Sounds like you and your huz will have long, healthy and very entertaining lives, Lisa! Kidzilla is in a very good place!
My question of the week is how to get someone to laugh when he’s had his funny bone amputated. Notice I didn’t use a question mark.
Fortunately, we have two, Luanne. Sometimes the second one is less developed, but can be exercised to the point where it eventually does the job for both. Don’t give up – surely there’s a ticklish spot somewhere that can trigger activation of the remaining funny bone!
Easy to keep each other laughing when we have two Corgis! If we’re not watching their antics together, we’re telling each other about them. 🙂
Based on your recent laughing corgi pic, they feel the same about their humans!
